In 1949, Jim Northrop and George Johnson opened the first Northrop & Johnson office in Lower Manhattan at 336 Madison Avenue. There, they developed the philosophy of the Northrop & Johnson gentlemen brokers; we are excited to again have an office in this international hub of culture and commerce. Located off Fifth Avenue, in the heart of New York’s renowned ultra chic luxury shopping area, Northrop & Johnson’s new NYC office will cater to ultra high net worth individuals in New York City, as well as the greater New York area.

Joining the Northrop & Johnson team as head of the New York office and sales broker is Mathias Chouraki. Mathias grew up sailing in Normandy, France, where he spent most of his summers teaching at the local sailing school or windsurfing.

After College, he began his professional career as a restaurateur with his brother in St. Barth’s. After five years, other business opportunities took him to New York City. Shortly after moving to New York, Mathias quickly realized the lack of opportunities for locals to charter boats; he decided to start his own charter company in Manhattan. Mathias quickly grew his charter and management company from one boat to a fleet of more than 15 in New York City and Long Island. Concurrently, along with other business partners, he developed the related franchises to more than 35 locations over the world. The close relationships and the trust Mathias created with clients help him transition from charter to sales broker, which he became full time after selling his company in 2008.

Mathias maintains his USCG’s captain License and travels frequently to south of France and Italy on behalf of his clients. His expertise and intuition make him invaluable to clients when choosing a yacht. Northrop & Johnson is delighted to welcome Mathias Chouraki to our exceptional international team of brokers.
