 Mythical Malta

Malta, Gozo, and Camino are the three mythic islands that make up the Maltese archipelago. The waters are crystal clear and warm, which provide the perfect environment for diving. Malta is described as an open-air museum, where you’ll wander the winding streets and be transported back in time with Renaissance cathedrals and Baroque palaces. — Alicia Ewing, Charter Broker

The keystone of the Mediterranean, the seven islands of the Republic of Malta lie at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, spanning the gap between the European and African continents. Because of its geographic location, Malta is another Mediterranean melting pot, with influences from England, Italy, North Africa and beyond.

Malta is the main island of the three inhabited in the seven-island archipelago. The capital city of Valletta is superb and steeped in history. A World Heritage site, baroque architecture mixes with modern cafes. Malta’s position in the middle of the Med has made her a popular place for navies throughout the centuries; hence the Grand Harbour has become something of legend. Many say it is the most beautiful in the Med. There are an expansive number of fine dining restaurants on the island, as well as wine bars. Visit the impeccable St. John’s Cathedral to see exceptional pieces from antiquity.

The clear, calm sea surrounding the Maltese islands make the perfect place to drop anchor and go for a dive during a luxury yacht charter of Malta. There are many reefs, wrecks and caves to explore below the waterline. The tiny isle of Comino, which lies between Malta and Gozo, is home to the famous Blue Lagoon, with cyan waters, snowy white sand beaches and mass marine life.

As you cruise past Gozo, make note of the stunning scenic hills, rugged coast and beautiful archways. Home to the Calypso cave, of Homer’s The Odyssey” fame, where hero Odysseus was fabled to be kept as a love slave to the goddess for seven years, this incredible natural cave is a must-see during a Malta yacht charter. While at anchor in Ramla Bay, take a tender ashore, and go explore the cave, but be sure to bring torches, as no natural light can be seen inside. Another historical site on Gozo that should not be missed are the Ġgantija Neolithic temples, which were constructed between 3600 and 2500 BC. Some of the oldest surviving man-made structures on earth, these temples are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
