Design Trends — The Shape of Things to Come

Northrop & Johnson is delighted to offer new central agencies comprising some of yachting’s newest and most innovative designs. Both Mondomarine and Sarp Yacht are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with regard to design, materials, technique and more. Mondomarine’s new projects are raising the bar and Sarp Yacht is showcasing next-level design perfectly highlighting the shape of things to come.

Mondomarine’s Milestones

Northrop & Johnson’s strategic global agreement with Mondomarine is an exciting collaboration that will see the world’s leading brokerage house maximize exposure for this well-established yard at the forefront of Europe’s superyacht construction market.

Recently purchased by Mr. Alessandro Falciai and Mr. Roberto Zambrini, whose intentions are to enhance the uniqueness of each design, Mondomarine’s production facilities are being upgraded to world-class level.

In recent years, Mondomarine has pioneered some of the world’s most striking and innovative yachts. With five yachts currently in build, this established trend is set to continue.

One of the most exciting aspects of Mondomarine’s new ownership is the breathtaking superyacht concepts ranging from 30 to 74 meters — Northrop & Johnson is thrilled to be representing these yachts. From helipads to beach clubs, retractable balconies to infinity pools, the builder’s unique fleet of new construction concepts has the hottest yacht features on the market.

“Mondomarine has come a long way and it does not get much better than this,” says Northrop & Johnson Sales Broker Jonathan Browne. “With the shipyard under new ownership, it has developed a more progressive management style and brought on newly appointed designers. We are very excited about our partnership.”

One of the standout yachts is the M57, which has been developed into two very distinct designs, the M57 EXPLORER and M57 EIDOS. The M57 EXPLORER superyacht offers so many facets of design and almost every amenity imaginable: two pools, an oversized Jacuzzi, six sunbathing areas, two full-service bars, two exterior dining areas, a beach club and a viewing platform, just to name a few of her exterior facets. The interior of the M57 EXPLORER is a completely blank canvas and owners are welcome to select an interior designer to customize the interior. The M57 EXPLORER will offer open spaces and a variety of one-of-a-kind features in the guest accommodation and salons. Up to 12 guests can enjoy accommodations, including a spacious on-deck master cabin with a private balcony and four additional staterooms, three kings and one twin, on the lower deck. The bridge deck also has a king stateroom. All accommodations offer en-suite facilities. This 57-meter global cruiser feels more like a 70-meter yacht; she was built to impress and entertain and she does both with ease.

Aside from the unquestionable beauty of her profile, the interior volume of M57 EIDOS is surprisingly large, with spacious cabins for 12 guests, two large salons, a beach club and an impressive owner’s suite fit for a king. If James Bond owned a yacht, this would be it. The M57 EIDOS essentially is a unique twist on a tri-deck layout. All three decks are sleek, modern and sexy. The main deck aft features a unique infinity pool with large sunpads on either side, maximizing an often-unused area. A fold-down swim platform reveals Euro-style transom stairs and a large-volume beach club with lounge area and full-service bar. The enormous foredeck, which has optional helipad capabilities, is outfitted with “Nikki Beach” resort-style seating, sunbathing space and a Jacuzzi. The sundeck features a full-service bar, various sun pads, high-top seating and a large dining table under a retractable roof.

Mondomarine's M57 EIDOS

Enrico Gobbi has put together a sample M57 EIDOS interior package, but essentially the interior is completely customizable to an owner’s tastes. The current design is a perfect complement to the exterior look and feel. Enrico Gobbi has created a comfortable, contemporary and elegant environment throughout, with a luxury “New York penthouse” vibe. The M57 EIDOS features five guest cabins on the lower deck, one of which is a full-beam VIP and an expansive on-deck master suite with an office, luxurious en-suite bathroom and relaxing lounge area with a private balcony. It also offers calming salon areas on the main and bridge decks, including large social seating areas with windows offering panoramic views and the extra benefit of flooding the area with ambient light. The M57 EIDOS is the essence of concept designing; it’s bold, exciting, beautiful and unapologetically different.

“I’ve always loved Mondomarine’s timeless yachts and believe the partnership between our two companies has come at the perfect time. I’m extremely eager to share the new look of Mondomarine’s concepts with the yachting industry,” says Mondomarine Sales Manager Giancarlo Mussino. “We’re proud that our brand has come so far in recent years and we feel that our yachts far surpass our competitors when considering our attention to detail, usage of the latest technology and truly unique designs.”

“Another aspect not to be overlooked is Mondomarine’s position within the Italian custom superyacht market,” says Northrop & Johnson Sales Broker Philip Bell. “With so many variables when considering pricing of high-end, large yachts, it’s often useful to look at the price per gross ton rather than asking price alone. Mondomarine is offering extremely attractive pricing throughout this range on new-build concepts. One of Northrop & Johnson’s best-kept secrets is our in-house intelligence system, which tracks various pricing data on all yachts and build projects. Our clients have the unique advantage of reviewing this data to make informed decisions on their purchases, and Mondomarine is now standing out as one of the best buys
in the new-build market.”

The upcoming months will see several important milestones achieved; the end of 2015 brings the delivery of the SF40, and 2016 the M50 and M60S. All of these latest projects are built entirely in aluminum, a distinguishing feature of Mondomarine’s projects. In spring 2017, Mondomarine will be delivering the M40 EXPLORER. With such a strong inventory of sold yachts under construction, and an impressive choice of concepts, Mondomarine is established as a top Italian superyacht builder, and a compelling choice for
anyone considering construction facilities.

Setting New Standards with Sarp Yacht

Southern Turkey is home to the 10,000-square-meter Sarp Yacht shipyard — one of the largest and most modern facilities in the Free Zone of Antalya. Visitors to the yard will be impressed by how tidy and well organized it is; further investigation reveals systems and processes that are more commonly associated with the benchmark northern European names. From management to shop floor there is a desire to do the job right, which manifests itself in all aspects of the business.

Sarp Yacht is owned by one of Turkey’s most respected families, which has a strong history of success in other industries. Based on that experience, the family’s journey into the superyacht world began by establishing the correct foundation and framework for the venture. To a great extent, this was achieved by implementing the Integrated Quality Management System (ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 & ISO 18001 OHSAS) certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). At time of publication, Sarp Yacht was the only shipyard among the many in Antalya to have all three of these ISO certifications.

The SARP 46M is due for completion in Autumn 2015. With growing rumors that the yard is on course to set a new standard in this market sector, her launch is eagerly anticipated by media, brokers and clients alike. Sarp has opted for a sophisticated and conventional appearance with state-of-the-art, but well-proven systems and engineering. Excellent attention to detail, as is obvious when visiting the yard, will result in a high-quality finished article sure to stand the test of time; it’s also offered at a very attractive price.

Naval architecture and external styling are by Taka Yacht Design, whose previous notable projects include AXIOMA (ex-RED SQUARE) and AMPHITRITE. A composite superstructure tops the steel displacement hull, which was comprehensively analyzed to reduce resistance and wave profile. This use of composite rather than aluminum above the deck benefits both stability and efficiency by reducing weight aloft while also decreasing maintenance requirements.

Internal design comes from the highly respected drawing board of Adam Lay, whose brief was to create a sophisticated and elegant interior with a clean simplicity of design. It resulted in an inviting, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The UK-based Adam Lay Studio excels in the design of custom superyacht interiors and its already long list of accolades was added to when this project won the Design Et Al Award 2015 for Best Yacht Concept over 40m. The vessel has received additional award recognition, including:

  • A’ Yacht & Marine Vessels Design 2015 – Gold
  • A’ Interior Space Design Award 2015 – Winner
  • The Arch of Europe Award For Quality & Technology – Gold

Taka Yacht Design and Adam Lay Studio have liaised closely with Sarp’s in-house design team; together they work in 3D updated in real time. The yard’s choice to build to the prestigious American Bureau of Shipping classification, ABS +A1 Yachting Service +AMS further underlines its desire to be taken seriously.

Mondomarine's SAPR 46m main salon

The SARP 46M provides accommodation for 10 to 12 guests in five excellent cabins. Two doubles and two twins, both with Pullman berths, are found on the lower deck and a lovely full-beam master suite is located on the main deck with an adjoining study, his-and-hers bathrooms and two large walk-in closets. A wonderful balance is found between internal and external spaces; neither feels as if it has been compromised to benefit the other. The yacht can carry nine or 10 crew who will be delighted to find that particular attention has been given to operational practicality during the design stage.

The responsibility of overseeing this exciting project is carried by Shipyard Manager Emre Sandan; those who know him feel sure it will be a great success. It’s rare to
meet someone with such focus and determination.

Sarp hopes to complete the yacht ahead of schedule and possibly in time to display her with Northrop & Johnson at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show, September 23–26, before shipping her to the U.S. for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in November 2015. However, Sandan makes it clear that no corners will be cut to meet that schedule.
