The diverse yet all-encompassing Leeward Islands span hundreds of beautiful azure-colored nautical miles. The locales that comprise the Leeward Islands each offer their own unique cultures, cuisines and natural beauty.

Approximately fifteen islands are embraced within the Leeward Islands. From north to south visit Anguilla, Saint Martin/Sint Maarten, Saint-Barthélemy, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Saint Kitts, Nevis, Barbuda, Antigua, Redonda, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, la Désirade, Îles des Saintes and Marie-Galante during a Leeward Island yacht charter. At one time or another, many of these islands were colonies of the great European superpowers. French, Dutch, West Indian and British influence all thrive within the laid-back island culture.

Under the governance of both France and the Netherlands, the island of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten offers both Dutch and French fare. The sophisticated town of Marigot is ripe with high-end boutiques and five-star restaurants. If you’re in the mood to dance, Prive and Bliss, both located on Sint Maarten’s Simpson bay are the places to be.

St. Bart’s is a famed getaway for the elite. Exceptional restaurants, spas and resorts can be found at every turn. This tiny island is the “it” place to ring in the New Year and come late December, Gustavia Harbour is filled with yachts as guests clamor into the deck for a glimpse of the impressive firework display.

St. Kitts and Nevis are two of the most breathtakingly beautiful islands in the Leeward chain. Although more developed than Nevis, St. Kitts maintains an unspoiled nature. Warm seas breeze onto white-sand beaches and monkeys swing from the trees of its rainforests. It is a lovely addition to and Leeward Islands yacht charter.

Antigua is a well-known hub for many yachts during the winter Caribbean charter season. History abounds from the famed Nelson’s Dockyard and the views from atop Shirley Heights are second to none. The Sunday evening barbecues here are lively and offer a real taste of the laid-back island life. A reef littered with wrecks can be found just off the coast, providing ample diving opportunities. Off the coast, you could spy the still-erupting volcanic island of Montserrat.
