The 101’ (31m) Chantier Navals de Normandie WEATHERBIRD is now for sale with Yacht Broker Richard Callender. The luxury sailing yacht is asking €3,800,000.
Delivered in 1931 and filled to the brim with history, this classic French two-master Schooner boasts a noble guest list from Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald to Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway. In 1934, the yacht became an on-water artist studio for Fernand Léger, who created a series of watercolor paintings of the yacht.
WEATHERBIRD was commissioned for Sara and Gerald Murphy, a wealthy American couple with an eye for adventure and exploration. Victor Orloff and Henri Rambaud organized the yacht’s design and delivery. Her exterior styling is reminiscent of east coast U.S. fishing schooners. A substantial refit was carried out in 1998, and a complete mechanical refit in 2021, including an overhaul of the main engine and new generators
Traditional 30s styling is seen throughout WEATHERBIRD’s interior. Dark, rich woodwork contributes to the elegant aesthetic. The yacht’s main salon is cozy with a U-shaped seating area and lots of windows for natural light. Eight guests are welcome on board to spend restful nights in her four beautifully-appointed staterooms. WEATHERBIRD’s accommodations include a master cabin with a double berth, a double cabin and two cabins, each with two single bunks. There is plenty of storage space throughout the yacht’s staterooms and main salon.
The exterior spaces of the sailing yacht have been meticulously maintained, and there are multiple seating and lounging areas for guests to enjoy and take in the passing landscapes. For yachting aficionados, WEATHERBIRD is a cherished prize. With plenty of fascinating backstories, this yacht is sure to spark up conversations and interest at every destination.
