Northrop & Johnson is pleased to announce a $750,000 price reduction on the extraordinary 24-meter aluminum hybrid-drive explorer yacht VANGUARD, now offered at $3,230,000 with Yacht Broker Mike Finnegan. Fresh from an Arctic expedition, VANGUARD is a purpose-built hybrid explorer yacht with real-world credentials, proven capability, and excellent value.
In the summer of 2025, VANGUARD completed a 7,400-nautical-mile round-trip expedition from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Rode Bay, Greenland, a journey that marks the first documented hybrid-propulsion vessel to transit the full North American Atlantic seaboard. More than a bold passage, the voyage confirmed VANGUARD’s engineering vision: to deliver long-range performance, low environmental impact, and resilience in extreme conditions.

Purpose-built for high-latitude passage-making, Vanguard combines commercial-grade diesel propulsion, electric drive capability, and renewable charging into a long-range, ice-ready platform. During the 2025 voyage, she weathered wind speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour in both Newfoundland and Western Greenland, executed a high-speed run ahead of Hurricane Erin across the Labrador Sea. She also navigated heavy Arctic ice in Disko Bay, supported by experienced ice pilots, and participated in an at-sea assistance and rescue event coordinated with local authorities. The successful completion of the 2025 expedition further validates the vessel’s hybrid architecture in one of the harshest northern cruising seasons in recent years.
Despite harsh environmental conditions, VANGUARD maintained full operational capability with an average fuel burn of just four liters per nautical mile, a remarkable benchmark for an explorer of her displacement and endurance. She operated with a lean crew of two to five, including Arctic ice pilots during the Greenland passage, further demonstrating the yacht’s operational efficiency, innovative systems design, and manageable manning requirements.

Equally notable, VANGUARD’s state-of-the-art commercial hybrid drive eliminates the need for traditional diesel generators for electrical production. This proven and highly efficient system is capable of supporting the vessel’s entire electrical load, far exceeding the typical limits of similar systems in place on yachts in the 24-metre class. This performance underscores the practicality of modern hybrid systems for long-range and high-latitude exploration.
Now undergoing refit at Yacht Management in Fort Lauderdale, VANGUARD is offered in excellent condition and with a fully documented expedition history. Her hybrid system is not theoretical; it is field-proven through one of the most ambitious passages ever undertaken by a vessel in this size range. With a dramatic price reduction, compelling story, and a build quality that speaks for itself, VANGUARD stands apart from the conventional market.
