A Motorcycle Harnesses the Spirit of Richard Mille

Two small companies, equally committed to creating avant-garde machines by hand, are collaborating to produce a line of motorcycles like no other.

Richard Mille, of the Swiss-made watch company by the same name, doesn’t use the tagline “A Racing Machine on the Wrist” for no reason. His deep appreciation for automotive innovation has served as the inspiration for his remarkable timepiece designs from day one. He met a like-minded innovator and perfectionist in Thierry Henriette, CEO of Brough Superior motorcycles. Over the course of 18 months, the two visionaries designed a motorcycle that preserves the aesthetic codes of each company.

The RMB01, a hand-numbered limited edition of 150 motorcycles, harkens back to the racing motorbikes of the early 1910s, known as Boardtrackers. Taut lines, a slim fuel tank, minimal seat and extensive skeletonization give the machine a feline silhouette. Both companies regularly work with such innovative materials as carbon, aluminum alloy, and titanium, and indeed, those materials make the RMB01 a veritable work of kinetic art.

The 130-horsepower bike features a sculptural 997cc twin-cylinder engine machined from solid blocks of high-quality aluminum. Its rims are inspired by the gear train of Richard Mille watch movements, and casings echo the design of tourbillon calibres. Anyone who glances at the half-electronic/half-mechanical dashboard to check their speed will notice the design reflects Richard Mille’s RM 40-01 tourbillon timepiece.

Customers may order their RMB01 motorcycle directly with Brough Superior, and have a choice between three color schemes: midnight blue, matte gray with orange, or white with red. Its price is €200,000.
