My Present
Hi, I’m Dennis Moran, a Yacht Broker at Northrop & Johnson. I strive to make my client’s yacht purchase or sale as easy and enjoyable as possible. It’s my goal to establish long-term relationships with all my clients, and I’m very fortunate to have the resources of one of the finest brokerage houses in the world backing me up. My on-water experience has proven invaluable when matching clients to specific boats. With almost four decades of experience in the yacht brokerage industry, I know where to find the right boat for my clients.

My Past
I’m a Pacific Northwest native that was introduced to boating at an early age. From cruising the Columbia River on the family sailboat to crewing on boats to Canada and the San Juan Islands in the summer, I found a passion for all things yachting. After moving to Southern California, I began sailing out of Newport harbor. In the late 60s I signed on as a sailing instructor at Ardell Sailing School in Newport Beach and was later offered a boat sales position.

From there, I embarked on a 30+ year career as a yacht broker with the legendary Ardell Yacht & Ship Brokers, in addition to managing the Newport Beach office for a decade. I took a sabbatical in the late ‘70’s to captain a 57’ (17.37m) S & S sailboat. When Ardell’s founder passed away in 2016 and the decision was made to close the brokerage operation, two of my peers and I signed on to open a Northrop & Johnson brokerage office in Newport Beach.

My Future
As a yachting enthusiast, I look forward to continuing my work and pursuing success for my clients, as well as the community.

My Outside-office Life
My continuous involvement in the marine industry expands beyond in-office sales. I’ve served on the Board of Directors of the California Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA), as well as the President, Arbitration Administrator and Forms Committee Member. I’ve also represented the California Department of Boating & Waterways as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Salesman & Broker license exam revisions, and I am an Advisory Board Member of the Catalina Island Conservancy Marineros.

Fast Fact

• Over the years, I’ve participated in numerous sailing races to Hawaii and Mexico and have extensively cruised the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
