Northrop & Johnson is excited to announce the addition of Paul MacDonald to its team as Sales and Charter Broker. Based in New Zealand, with business focused in Australia and New Zealand, Paul brings with him a wealth of industry knowledge, hands-on sailing expertise, and an entrepreneurial spirit that perfectly aligns with Northrop & Johnson’s commitment to delivering exceptional results and personalized service.

Paul’s lifelong passion for the water began early, sailing P Classes at Kohimarama Yacht Club and advancing through OK dinghies to Maxi boat racing on the international circuit. His sailing credentials include serving as a crew member aboard Sir Peter Blake’s iconic “Lion of New Zealand,” which placed second in the 1985/86 Whitbread Round the World Race. These experiences laid the groundwork for Paul’s deep understanding of yacht design and performance.

Paul’s professional career has been defined by innovation and leadership within the yacht sector. In 1988, he co-founded Marten Spars, a pioneer in adapting carbon fiber technology for luxury yachts. Following the company’s merger with Southern Spars in 2006, Paul assumed the role of Head of Superyacht Sales, where he helped drive the brand to global prominence as a leader in carbon rigging solutions. His ability to blend technical expertise with client-focused solutions has earned him a reputation as a trusted advisor. In recent years, Paul launched McD Yachts, a boutique brokerage in New Zealand. His move to Northrop & Johnson marks an exciting new chapter.

Paul’s mission is to make yachting more accessible, drawing from his own extraordinary experiences on the water to help clients discover their own. His approach is grounded in authenticity and a passion for helping people embrace the yachting lifestyle.

Northrop & Johnson is proud to welcome Paul MacDonald to the global team and looks forward to the insight and expertise he brings to the Thailand office and beyond.
