European Managing Director Patrick Coote Rows for a Cause

Northrop & Johnson is proud to support our European Managing Director Patrick Coote as he participates in The Red Cross Row. This endurance expedition kicks off on Monday, June 27 as a team of eight, including Patrick Coote, row more than 400 nautical miles, circumnavigating Scotland in a 38.71′ (11.8m) open rowing boat.

The expedition starts and ends in Ullapool, Scotland. The journey will take the rowers past Oldshoremore beaches and will follow the Inner and  Outer Hebrides coastal waters then head for the Orkney Islands, past John O’Groats and over the northern tip of Scotland before heading down the east coast. The dedicated team of eight rowers will traverse Scotland via the Caledonian Canal to Fort William where they will continue on to the Sound of Mull past the Isle of Skye.

The stunning Scottish coastline will play backdrop to this endeavor of perseverance. Often welcoming this time of year, the rowers hope for good weather and look forward to seeing the rich abundance of wildlife and sea mammals for which the region is known. However, the region the rowers face also can be inhospitable with dangerous currents, confused fast-running tides, towering cliffs and rocky shores. This is believed to be only the second time such an expedition has ever been attempted and the first time with a Monaco resident, Patrick Coote, as part of the team.

European Managing Director Patrick Coote has spent the majority of his career working in the luxury boating sector and is excited to embark on a physical and mental challenge that will take him completely out of his comfort zone, pitting him against the raw elements of sea, wind and tide, as well as facing the inevitable exhaustion and uncertainty that comes with such a journey.

This expedition is raising funds for “Action Ukraine” set up by the Red Cross in Monaco to help all those affected by the current war. Northrop & Johnson is providing financial backing for the expedition and Patrick Coote and his team aim to raise more than €25,000 to support the efforts of the Red Cross.

“Millions of people in Ukraine are now without their families, homes, comfort or safety,” says Coote. “Putting myself in the same position, albeit just for a few days, will hopefully help to highlight their plight and raise donations to support them.”
