The 84′ (25.60m) Palmer Johnson FIREBIRD is now for sale with Yacht Broker Martin Holmes. The luxury sailing yacht is asking $499,000.
This Palmer Johnson 84 Ketch is a beautiful example of a classic world-cruising yacht. At the time of her launch in 1966, she became the largest aluminum sailing yacht in the world. She is a comfortable and seaworthy yacht; there is no safer vessel of her kind. FIREBIRD has a collision bulkhead and five watertight compartments, with heavily constructed aluminum hatches that can be dogged down. She is capable of doing 200nm-plus per day under sail. With her roller furling rig, she can be easily handled by a crew of two. FIREBIRD’s dependable and efficient GM 8V71 engine offer 8 to 10 knots with a range of 2500 miles.
FIREBIRD’s five-year refit program began in 2015 and brought substantial upgrades to her interior. With over $1 million invested into her refurbishment, FIREBIRD now showcases a truly one-of-a-kind full-teak interior that revolutionized the yacht. The artistry illustrated is typically not seen on yachts in this day and age. Traditional yachting enthusiasts will appreciate the attention to detail and no-expense-spared approach.
Access to the pilothouse and navigation area is by stepping down through the center cockpit. Here you will find opening portholes and a semi-circular sofa. The main salon is further down and features an open-concept design that merges the seating areas with the galley. To port is a seating space that is convertible to a daybed/sea berth when needed.
A total of nine guests are welcome onboard FIREBIRD when the salon daybed is used. The master cabin is queen-sized with private access to the aft leisure cockpit. The port guest cabin offers two single bunks and the crew cabin forward features three berths, a double and two singles. The yacht’s versatile layout gives the owner and guests complete control of the configuration.
FIREBIRD’s exterior is elegant and traditional. Her center cockpit is deep and well-protected. The leisure cockpit is aft and is an excellent area for guests to gather and enjoy the alfresco lifestyle, kicking back in the comfortable seating area while the stunning scenery passes by. The extended hardtop from the pilothouse and the awning offer shade when desired. At anchor, three additional awnings can be utilized to create a vast shaded main deck area for lounge chairs, a hammock and an 8′ dining table. FIREBIRD is a proven world cruiser with a robust hull and deck that was built with durability in mind.
