PHUKET INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW 2016 WRAP UP

Posted January 14, 2016 in Events by Janine St.Denis

The diversity of exhibitors and sales quite accurately portrays Phuket as the heart of boating in the region. With more than 60 international marine brands represented, the line-up was the most diverse ever with boats ranging from THB2 million ($55,000USD) up to four superyachts priced at more than THB360 million ($9,918,553USD) each. The show had a 34 percent increase in the number of sailing yachts and multi-hulled yachts displayed this year.

In addition to the marine exhibitions, the Phuket International Boat Show also offered attendees a selection of luxury properties, cars, premium lifestyle services and marine products in the Exhibition Hall.

Northrop & Johnson participated in the Phuket International Boat Show for the sixth year running, featuring top quality yachts for brokerage.

“There is always an interesting mix of different nationalities in the audience,” said Northrop & Johnson Asia Director and Sales Broker Bart Kimman. “Many Hong Kong natives and Singaporeans, as well as European expats live in Phuket part of the year. Thai nationals are now working up a nice appetite for boating, too. Moreover, there are many Russians and Mainland Chinese patrons who love exchanging their winter climates for sunny Phuket this time of year. We exhibited an attractively priced Bering 65 and are now busy following up leads.”

Following a so-called increased interest from superyachts, rumor has it that the organizers will be offering a dedicated superyacht facility at next year’s Phuket International Boat Show. Northrop & Johnson’s team based in Asia is entering its busy boat show season, gearing up for events in Taiwan, Vladivostok, Hong Kong, Singapore, another show in Phuket, and China. We hope you’ll visit us there!
