2016 MONACO YACHT SHOW WRAP UP

Posted October 17, 2016 in Events by Janine St.Denis

The 25th edition of this glamorous yacht show was met with much positivity as the docks were bustling with busy brokers and excited clients. Northrop & Johnson was on hand with two exceptional yachts, the 177-foot (54m) Benetti luxury yacht STARFIRE and the 84-foot (26m) CNM motor yacht SWAGGY, in the show. In addition, Northrop & Johnson had a variety of luxury yachts on anchor for viewing. Northrop & Johnson partnered with CNM to procure two of its exceptional Continental 50 tenders to take guests about the port and to anchor for yacht inspections.

On dry land, at Northrop & Johnson’s lavish stand and lounge, located at QE4, our Global Luxury Partners Arnold & Son, Aston Martin, Casillero del Diablo, Chai Rum, Goldfinch Pianos and Marsh Insurance, and Associated Partner Chateau d’Esclans were on hand. Arnold & Son brought with them a variety of novelties for clients to check out; Aston Martin graciously offered car rides to clients, as well as test drives in Beaulieu; and Casillero, Chai Rum and Chateau d’Esclans offered a variety of delicious wines, roses and spirits for guests to taste and enjoy throughout the course of the four-day show.

On the Monday before the show, Northrop & Johnson welcomed captains and guests for an annual “Captains’ Meet in the Med” dinner to start off the show with networking and a lovely meal. Held at the enticing Avenue 31 restaurant, captains and Northrop & Johnson partners, including Arnold & Son, Chai Rum, Luxury Water Toys and Marsh Insurance enjoyed cocktails and canapés followed by a sit-down dinner with wine pairing and rousing conversation.

On the first day of the show, Northrop & Johnson celebrated the success of Asia Managing Director Bart Kimman’s sale of an 81-meter Royal Huisman. Northrop & Johnson is delighted to have its finger on the pulse on the Asia market thanks to our Asia team spread throughout seven offices in the region. Northrop & Johnson not only was one of the first large yacht brokerages to break into the Asia market, it also was the first in China — this office opened only weeks before the Monaco show began.

One the second day of the show, Northrop & Johnson was delighted to welcome more than 150 guests on board STARFIRE for our Elite 49 event. Revelers kicked up their heels to the sassy sounds of the Troubadours — a local sensation — and a magician showed the tricks up his sleeve as guests delighted in the culinary creations of STARFIRE’s top chef. Guests enjoyed champagne, Chateau d’Esclans rosé, Casillero del Diablo wine and Chai Rum, which was smoked on site to further enhance the flavor.

As the show wound down on Saturday, there was a cheery disposition found on faces as it seemed to be a very productive event. Only time will tell just how productive, but we look forward to seeing sales soon.
