VisitMalta has been honored with the Navigator Magazine Excellence Award for Destination, recognizing Malta’s continued strength and appeal as one of the Mediterranean’s leading hubs for the superyacht sector.

The award, presented by Navigator, was presented during Seatrade Cruise Global 2026, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center from April 13 to 16. The presentation took place at the VisitMalta stand and was led by Daniel Wade, Global Head of Partnerships and Chief Content Officer at Northrop & Johnson. Accepting the award on behalf of VisitMalta were Arthur Grima and Michelle Buttigieg.

Presented annually by Navigator, the award recognizes destinations that demonstrate excellence across both maritime infrastructure and overall destination appeal. Malta continues to distinguish itself through its unique combination of strategic location, world-class yachting facilities, and rich cultural offerings.

“We’re delighted to recognize VisitMalta with this award,” said Daniel Wade. “Malta’s blend of strategic positioning and destination appeal truly sets it apart within the Mediterranean. It delivers not only as a key operational hub for superyachts, but as a destination that offers a compelling experience both on and off the water.”

This recognition reflects Malta’s position as a multifaceted destination. From the UNESCO-listed city of Valletta to its vibrant waterfronts, year-round cruising conditions, and renowned hospitality, Malta continues to attract discerning yacht owners and charterers alike. Its appeal extends well beyond the shoreline, with over 7,000 years of history, a dynamic cultural scene, and a globally recognized culinary offering.

Strategically located at the crossroads of the Mediterranean, Malta plays a pivotal role in global cruising itineraries. Its proximity to both Western and Eastern Mediterranean cruising grounds makes it a natural hub for seasonal cruising and long-term yacht operations. This advantage is supported by well-developed port infrastructure, efficient provisioning, refit and repair facilities, and a robust maritime ecosystem.

“Malta continues to play an important role in global cruising itineraries while also serving as a premier base for superyacht operations,” said Arthur Grima while accepting the award.

“There was a time when many Americans weren’t even sure where Malta was. Today, that has completely changed,” Michelle Buttigieg added. “American travelers have truly discovered Malta, drawn by its rich history, culture, and unique Mediterranean appeal, as well as the growing visibility of superyachts and cruise ships calling in Valletta.”

The recognition by Navigator underscores Malta’s continued evolution as a premier Mediterranean destination, one that combines strategic maritime advantages with an immersive, experience-driven offering that resonates with today’s global yachting audience.

About Yachting in Malta

Set at the heart of the Mediterranean, Malta has established itself as a key hub for luxury yacht charter, offering over 300 days of sunshine and easy access to both the West and East Mediterranean. The Maltese archipelago, which comprises Malta, Gozo, and Comino, combines compact cruising distances with a diverse coastal landscape.

With approximately 122 miles of coastline, the islands offer a mix of sheltered bays, clear waters, caves, and reefs, well-suited to exploration by yacht. Grand Harbour Marina, located in the historic capital of Valletta, provides a central starting point, while additional berthing options include Msida Yacht Marina, Mgarr Harbour, and Vittoriosa Yacht Marina. For those seeking greater privacy, the islands also offer numerous secluded anchorages.

About Malta

With its combination of reliable climate, cultural depth, and developed infrastructure, Malta presents a well-rounded Mediterranean destination. The islands are home to a significant concentration of historic sites, including the UNESCO-listed capital Valletta and the prehistoric Haġar Qim Temples, reflecting a history that spans several millennia.

Beyond its heritage, Malta offers a contemporary lifestyle shaped by a strong hospitality sector, established marina network, and a growing culinary scene, including Michelin-starred dining. Luxury accommodation ranges from restored palazzos to modern waterfront properties, while a year-round calendar of cultural events continues to broaden its appeal.

Together, these elements position Malta as both a practical yachting base and a destination with substance beyond the water.
