Northrop & Johnson spotlights Marketing Director Alfredo Lopez. Alfredo has spent over ten years doing marketing in the yachting industry and has been with Northrop & Johnson since 2014. His innovative expertise ensures Northrop & Johnson’s marketing team and initiatives are the most forward-thinking and strategically minded in the industry.

How did you get into the yachting industry and what led you to where you are today?

I have always been fascinated by ships and the ocean, so when I was given the opportunity to work at another yacht brokerage 10 years ago, I took it without hesitation. Back then I was hired by Daniel Ziriakus and Patrick Coote, it is interesting how we all went our separate ways and have now ended up at N&J.

What do you think makes N&J special?

Our culture, our people, and the special care that is taken in the company to ensure everyone feels appreciated.

What do you like most about your job?

Marketing has many facets and it always keeps you on your toes. The field is constantly changing, so it is very stimulating to always have something new to learn.

What accomplishment at N&J makes you most proud?

Overall being part of the big change N&J has undergone over the last decade is something I’m proud of. On a more individual level, I’m proud of the creation of three stellar yachting publications that grew to the point it had to be handed to an internal media team lead by an experienced publisher.

What is your favorite cruising destination and why?

The Bahamas for their crystal clear waters, year-round good weather, and for their seemingly endless islands the country offers for exploration.

If you had a yacht what type of yacht would you have?

If I was so fortunate to be able to own a large yacht, I would choose an explorer vessel. They offer long-range, large volume and the freedom to go almost anywhere in the world where there’s deep enough waters to explore. I would probably live onboard most of the time if this was the case.

If you had a yacht where would you spend the most time aboard?

I would try to spend the most time at the beach club where you are closer to the ocean while enjoying the comfort and luxury that a yacht offers.

What’s your favorite activity you enjoy with friends/family?

Beach days have become one of my favorite activities to do with my family since my daughter Valeria was born. We are very fortunate to live in South Florida as we can enjoy this activity year-round.

What is one fun/unique fact about yourself?

I learned how to swim in the Sea of Cortez. San Carlos was my very first go-to beach, so I grew spoiled thinking that all the other beaches would be just as beautiful.

What is one tip for first-time clients?

Hire the services of a professional broker and ask as many questions as possible. Make sure your broker helps you understand every step of the way on the sales or purchase process so you can be confident your best interest is always covered.
