2016 MARKET INTELLIGENCE REVIEW

The following is an excerpt of information from Northrop & Johnson’s 2016 Market Intelligence Review.

“The new construction sector in 2016 saw more than 130 superyacht deliveries worldwide,” says Northrop & Johnson Sales Broker & New Construction Expert Joe Foggia. “This, of course, allowed shipyards the flexibility to compete for new business that they couldn’t have considered twelve months ago.”

In the charter sector, Northrop & Johnson Charter Director Fiona Maureso had this to say about 2016, “The global geopolitical situation resulted in a hesitant start, but ultimately the 2016 charter market proved to be as successful, if not more so, than the previous year. The Mediterranean in general saw a 10 percent increase in the number of yachts offered for charter in the area, while mainland Spain and the Balearics enjoyed a 20 percent increase in popularity. The Caribbean remains the most visited winter destination, but it proved to be a buyer’s market everywhere this winter with excellent opportunities for repeat and first-time charterers alike.”
