In this week’s NoJo Spotlight, we sit down with Senior Charter Assistant Mary Wickman. She shares her insights on the best aspects of working in the charter retail sector and her favorite places to go boating. Mary is organized, detail-oriented and passionate about the yachting industry. Her can-do attitude and dedication to clients ensure she is an asset to the Northrop & Johnson team.

How did you get into the yachting industry and what led you to where you are today?

I got into the yachting industry when I moved to Florida with my husband in the 80s. Since then, I have worked in all aspects of the industry, from sales and service to accounting and yacht management to marina management and now retail charter. I truly love this industry and all the different facets of it. Each has its own unique aspects that make it interesting, challenging and fun.

What do you think makes N&J special?

I believe it is the people of Northrop & Johnson that make it special. Every team member is the best in their area of expertise. Everyone works so well together, it really gives Northrop & Johnson a family feel.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy working with a variety of people, from all of our N&J brokers to those at other firms to captains and clients. Another aspect of this work that I truly enjoy is making people’s dreams come true.

What is your favorite cruising destination and why?

My favorite cruising destination has to be The Bahamas as it’s easy to get there, the beaches are beautiful and the waters are crystal clear.

What’s your favorite activity you enjoy with friends/family?

One of my most treasured activities with my family and friends is boating. We absolutely enjoy boating together and try to get out on the water as often as possible.

What is one fun/unique fact about yourself?

One fun fact about me that people might not know is that I am a singer.
