1990 Lyman-Morse 52ft

SOUTHERLY is a 52’ Custom Hunt Design built by Lyman Morse in 1990. Originally commissioned as ASANTE, she represents one of the earliest larger Hunt Deep-Vee designs, delivering excellent speed, comfort, and handling in a traditional Down East express profile with flybridge. Maintained to a high standard and comprehensively refit in 2005/2006, including new machinery, systems, paint, varnish, and interior, SOUTHERLY continues to show as a capable and well-cared-for classic cruiser.

Powered by twin diesels with a new port engine installed in 2021, she cruises comfortably at 26 knots with a top speed of 28 knots. The hull form delivers a remarkably smooth and stable ride offshore, and she remains mechanically sound and ready for her next chapter. From 2006 through 2020, SOUTHERLY was used seasonally on the U.S. East Coast and kept in top condition by a knowledgeable owner. Since 2021, she’s seen light use and careful yard maintenance at Wickford Shipyard.

Her interior layout offers notable volume for a yacht of this size, thanks to a fully open salon, helm, and galley arrangement. Varnished teak joinerwork and teak-and-holly soles provide a classic finish, while large windows at the pilothouse level add natural light and visibility. The salon includes two leather chairs, an L-shaped settee, a custom drop-leaf table, and a dedicated office area. The galley, just a few steps down, features stainless countertops, cold plate refrigeration and freezer, Miele range and oven, and ample storage including a pantry with a washer/dryer.

Accommodations include two large staterooms, each with ensuite heads. The aft master features a full king berth, generous locker space, and a split head/shower arrangement. Forward, the guest stateroom offers two oversized single berths, a spacious layout, and a head with dual access and an enclosed shower.

Exterior spaces include a well-designed flybridge with settees, teak table, and twin helm chairs; a mid-deck with tender storage, crane, and mast; and an aft deck with access to the swim platform and lazarette. A Lewmar electric warping winch and thoughtful deck equipment support ease of handling.

With her proven performance, upgraded systems, and solid build pedigree, SOUTHERLY is a strong opportunity for a buyer seeking a classically styled, fast cruising yacht with timeless lines and a straightforward operational profile. She’s fully found, clean, and ready to cruise.
