MR. CHIPS is a 2008 Hatteras 80 Motor Yacht that pairs the substantial proportions of the Hatteras platform with a more contemporary interior treatment. Her 21'8" beam gives the main deck considerable volume, while satin-finished woodwork rather than a traditional high-gloss finish changes the character of the interior. New carpet and décor were added in 2023, complementing an arrangement designed around comfortable, connected living spaces for eight guests in four staterooms.
That sense of space is immediately apparent on the main deck. From the aft deck, curved stainless-steel-framed sliding glass doors open into a full-beam salon, creating an easy transition between the exterior seating area and the yacht’s principal interior gathering space. Rather than breaking the main deck into a series of isolated rooms, the layout progresses forward to formal dining for eight and then into a country-kitchen-style galley. Here, full-size appliances and generous counter space are joined by a casual settee forward to port, making the galley somewhere guests can comfortably spend time rather than simply a service area. The lower helm sits to starboard.
The flybridge adds another dimension to the layout and is one of MR. CHIPS’ defining spaces. Large enough to accommodate approximately 30 people, it combines the upper helm with extensive seating and entertaining space. A custom hardtop installed in 2015 provides additional coverage, while a hot tub added in 2023 gives the deck even more prominence as the yacht’s social hub. The helm itself has two adjustable Stidd captain’s chairs, Garmin displays and Furuno NavNet, supported by TRAC digital stabilizers, bow and stern thrusters and Simrad autopilot. Additionally, her 2015 tender was reconditioned with new tubes in 2025.
The exterior arrangement continues at water level with a teak-overlaid swim platform, while the main aft deck provides a more sheltered setting for meals and time outside with a bench settee, large teak table and additional chairs. Together with the flybridge, these areas give guests distinct options for dining, entertaining or simply spending time outdoors without relying on a single primary deck space.
Below deck, the accommodations make good use of the yacht’s beam. The full-beam master stateroom is centered around a king-size berth, with six oversized portlights across the port and starboard sides bringing natural light into the cabin. The remaining three cabins provide flexibility for family or additional guests. A VIP to port has a queen-size berth and en-suite while the forward VIP combines a walk-around queen berth with an enlarged en-suite. The fourth stateroom uses crisscross over-and-under berths and has its own en-suite head.
MR. CHIPS is powered by twin Caterpillar C32 diesel engines producing 1,800 hp each. Beneath the waterline, her modified-V fiberglass hull incorporates Hatteras’ convex hull design and a solid fiberglass bottom, with seven-blade propellers and deep gear ratios. She is also equipped with twin 27.5kW Onan generators and a Sea Recovery Aqua Whisper watermaker capable of producing 1,400 gallons per day, rounding out a specification suited to extended time aboard.
