Full Details

Overview

Megusta is presented in truly first class yacht condition. The Marlow Explorer 58E has an overall length of nearly 68 feet and is a very popular, well thought-out and high quality cruising yacht.

Megusta is unique among her sisters for having 3 staterooms for guests, all with ensuite bathrooms. All interior cabinetry and paneling is satin finished blond teak.

Main Saloon

Megusta’s beam of 18’6” is evident here. Despite side decks on both sides of the yacht, the Main Saloon is a very spacious room with clear sight-lines to the galley and pilothouse forward. Large windows give an expansive view of the anchorage and double doors aft open to the aft deck. Generous settee’s upholstered in pale ultra leather are to port and starboard and a large TV is hidden in cabinetry forward.

Galley

The galley occupies the aft section of the pilothouse, up three steps from the saloon. Beautifully finished with granite counter tops, twin sinks, and top quality appliances including ‘drawer’ type fridge/freezers.

  • 2x Sub Zero refrigerator/freezer units (4 drawers)
  • Dacor cook top smooth with searails/potholders
  • Microwave
  • Full size Dacor oven
  • Grohe faucet
  • Franke stainless steel sink with decorative cutting board cover
  • Drinking water faucet
  • Granite sole in galley with stainless steel trim

Accommodations

Master Stateroom
The Master suite is in the center of the yacht for the greatest comfort underway and is the quietest place on the yacht at anchor. Although just forward of the engine room, it is separated from it by very effective sound deadening materials and the fully beam fuel tank.

An island king size berth is almost on the center line, and the master bathroom is to port. Hidden accent lighting and generous hanging locker and drawer storage make this stateroom all you would expect and more from this high quality builder. Air-conditioning is indirect to prevent uncomfortable drafts; 4 opening hull ports provide light and air; luxury granite and marble is used in the bathroom, and a flat screen TV is comfortably seen from the bed.

VIP Stateroom
The VIP stateroom forward has a center-line island queen berth with six large drawers under the berth. All the cabinetry is satin finished teak. There are twin cedar lined hanging lockers. There is a flat screen TV that is mounted on the aft wall of the stateroom. This stateroom has reading lights. Two screened overhead hatches to provide light and fresh air.

VIP Head
There is a full head with separate stall shower accessible from the stateroom or the companionway to allow use as a day head. The Lexan shower door is a beautiful curved shape framed in solid teak to make the best use of the space. The head has exhaust fans vented outside the vessel. The sink is an under-mounted china bowl on a marble top finished with teak fiddles. The sole is granite with stainless steel trim.

Port Guest Stateroom
The second guest stateroom is on the port side of the vessel at the base of the stairs from the Pilothouse. This stateroom provides two comfortable bunks and a cedar-lined hanging locker. There is a flat screen TV on the aft bulkhead viewable from the berths. Double doors open this area to the companionway where you descend from the pilothouse giving the yacht a very open feel.

This bunk room also has its own head with separate shower stall, providing a true 3 stateroom 3 head yacht.

Laundry Equipment

The full size stacked separate washer and dryer are in the main hallway between the staterooms so everyone staying on board has access. There is a storage locker for detergent and other supplies a few feet away at the base of the stairs.

Pilothouse

As always, the pilothouse is the command center of any yacht. This one is particularly well done, as this space accomplishes several tasks at once. The helm is centrally positioned forward with a clear view ahead and to both sides, and importantly, aft through the saloon. The staircase to the accommodations is to starboard of the helm. Aft is the large galley and a comfortable dinette is to port. Doors on both sides lead out to the side decks and the Portuguese bridge forward, and in the port aft corner a stairway leads up to the flybridge.

Engine Room

Accessed via a door on the portside aft down to the crew quarters, the engine room is entered via a centerline watertight door. Brightly lit, there is a general sense of spaciousness which is a very pleasant surprise for a yacht this size. Everything is easily reached and accessible for all service routines.

There are 4 large blowers to cool the space down after a run. Each diesel engine has dual Racor filters. The fuel system is very simple with 1 large fuel tank 1500 gallons that you can fill from either side of the boat. The engine mounts are polished stainless steel and secure the engine vibration isolation mounts to the carbon fiber hull stringers that run all the way past the transmissions. The shaft seals are by Sea Torque and eliminate friction for a smooth and efficient rotation of the shaft. At the aft corner of the engine room you will find twin Sea Chests with removable clear cleaning port. Each of the engines, generator, air- conditioning system, salt water washdown and all the other components of the yacht that require salt water have their own shut-off valve on the Sea Chest. One hole opening for each Sea Chest for all sea water needs provides great safety. The 715 hp Cummins engines are connected to the underwater exhaust system via high temperature silicone hose to further isolate noise and vibration.

Deck

The raised pilothouse, Portuguese bridge seating, wide side decks, combined with her state of the art semi-displacement hull makes Marlow Explorer one of the most comfortable yachts in any sea condition. The side decks are fully protected by fiberglass bulwarks topped with teak cap rails. The foredeck is accessed through a Portuguese bridge door. The twin stainless steel anchors are set up with dual gypsy windlass. On either side of the windlass, deck lockers open to expose the forward 50A shore power connections. Faucets for the fresh and salt water wash downs are also in these lockers.

The fuel tank can be filled from either side of the yacht. The fuel fill is in a locker that is conveniently located amidships about 12" above the deck. The water fills are located on either side of the pilothouse right below the windshield.

Hull

Marlow has taken the time to optimize the basic hull design. When you see a Marlow Explorer on land you notice that the yacht is blocked at the bow, but at the stern she is sitting on her own twin keels. The propellers are well above the bottom of the keels and it is obvious that a light grounding on a sand bar will only result in some worn bottom paint. What is not so obvious is how these strut keels will make the boat handle in a following sea. The lateral resistance provided makes the boat track straight with very little rudder correction required. On deck teak planks are epoxied in place. The deck is molded as one piece and there are no seams from the transom to the bow, including the Portuguese bridge. The windshields and side windows are tinted glass and laminated with a layer of 3M Hurricane shield to a total thickness of 11mm.

The hull is molded in gel coat and topped with Awlgrip primer and finished with Midnight Blue Awlgrip. The bilges are smooth using a special gel-coating for a clean and tidy finish like the rest of the yacht.

The Cummins electronic display is immediately forward of the large stainless steel wheel. The console also has displays for direction, water depth, and boat speed. The VHF and the yachts intercom phone are within easy reach. The flybridge is protected by a full factory fiberglass hardtop. The flybridge has a three-sided poly-carbonet enclosure, and is accessible by stairs from inside the pilothouse and from outside from the cockpit. There is comfortable seating aft of the helm chairs and a large table perfect for dining outside. For the “owner operator” this space is very useful for children, or for and extra hand or two on long passages.
