AN INTERVIEW WITH THE CHIEF STEWARDESS OF SOLO

Posted March 7, 2019 in Charter by Janine St.Denis

How did you get into the yachting industry?
Liga : I knew early on, that I would spend part of my life on the ocean. I have had a love for the ocean and boats from a young age. My father worked with boats and we spent many amazing summers days cruising.

What do you love most about your job?
Liga: I love all the wonderful people I have been lucky enough to meet every day. From crew to owners and guests, I have made many great friends and met the best people from being in the yachting industry.

Why SOLO is your favorite yacht?
Liga: When I first set eyes on SOLO, I knew this yacht was extraordinary. I found the design extremely beautiful and elegant. This yacht has a special place in my heart as we had to set the entire yacht up from scratch. What seemed impossible to begin with has been an amazing transformation to what SOLO is now. Best of all the crewmembers aboard SOLO are amazing and very professional — it makes me love this stunning yacht so much more.

Is yachting how you expected it to be?
Liga: Every day is filled with exciting surprises and I love it! The yachting industry keeps you ready for the unexpected adventures and it’s good for the heart and soul!

What was your greatest experience on a boat?
Liga: The thing I love most about my job is traveling to exotic places and meeting amazing people from all over the world.

Who do you most admire in the world of yachting?
Liga: Let’s start with the amazing people I get to interact with, from celebs to elite business professionals, they are a daily occurrence and every new charter guest has a beautiful story behind them. Also, the crew I get to meet from all over the world. These relationships are such a special thing as I get to learn about many new cultures and funny little sayings.

Which nationalities tend to be the best charter guests?
Liga: Obviously Latvian guests are the best! But seriously they all are so different and have their good and bad sides.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned?
Liga: The most important thing I have learned is to be trustworthy, I feel that in this industry trust goes a long way.

What does the future look like for yacht crew?
Liga: For the future for yacht crew, I can imagine the whole industry becoming very competitive and so crewmembers will be forced to stay on top of the game making it harder and harder to break into the industry and those that are in will be forced to step it up.

Continuous professional development is on the rise — what’s your view?
Liga: The yachting industry has been around for a long time and I think what started out as being quite casual has now become a very competitive industry and career for many. The kind of people we work for expect nothing but the best, no matter what it is. Furthermore, it as has evolved that these beautiful yachts need to have an extremely professional crew.

Which is your favorite destination and why?
Liga: This is a difficult question. The world is so vast and so divine. I adore the Caribbean nature and lifestyle but there also some places in Italy that really took my breath away.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Liga: When I am not working, I enjoy going to the gym, traveling or exploring different areas and experiencing new cultures. I also enjoy beautiful architecture, fashion, cultural events and spending time with my close friends and family.

What is your favorite book or film about the sea?
Liga: I am a hopeless romantic, my all-time favorite movie so far is Titanic.

What will you be doing in five years?
Liga: I’ll be in New York working on my business and making the world around me a much happier place!

What is your motto?
Liga: Be the change you want to see in the world! Radiate positive vibes and be happy!
