Deciding to build a new yacht can be a very rewarding and a life time dream come true to many yacht owners. However, there is much to consider before this dream can become reality. Initial Stages:
- Deciding on what type of yacht will best suit your family's needs, discussing your desired cruising area, performance needs, or whether the yacht will be private or also for charter.
- Picking a suitable designer, discussing layouts, sand safety.
- Finding the right builder or builders, and obtaining quotes and rough estimates.
- Obtaining the appropriate legal counsel with experience in what are often long and complex contracts with performance grantees, milestone payment requirements, and protection for the owner.
- Advising on the classification and flag registration aspects
- Selecting an appropriate build surveyor
During the build:
- Constantly providing advice throughout the entire construction process to make sure the yacht keeps to the contractual specifications desired
- Mediating between the yard, project manager, surveyors, owner, and other parties involved
- Negotiating change orders and making suggestions to help protect the yachts present and future market value
- Providing an in depth review and observation of all aspects of the yacht prior to each progress payment
- Providing suggestions and interview initial key crew personnel for the owner
After Completion:
- Attending launch and sea trials
- Ensuring the yacht is delivered according to the contract
- Continuing to provide advice, and support for the duration of the ownership.
